Vileda Steam Mop Description and Features
Easy to use
The mop is lightweight making it easy to carry from one room to the next and upstairs when you are cleaning. As this is, only a steam mop it does not come with a detachable handheld steamer, unlike other units.
This has the advantage of making it smaller and lighter to carry around the house and upstairs to clean the bathroom.
Assembling the Steam Mop
The mop comes securely packaged in its box but is easy to unpack. The box contains the three sections of the mop, two mop heads and an attachment for refreshing carpets. The carpet glider fits over the cleaning cloth so you can use it to freshen up the carpets. Also included is a plastic jug to fill the water tank.
The mop head cloths fit to the triangular cleaning head using Velcro.
The mop head clothes are very easy to clean you just throw them in the machine after use. However, do not use fabric conditioner as this makes them waterproof so they will not soak up so much water as usual.
The three sections are easy to fit together and all click into place. It is easy and intuitive to assemble. However, it also comes with simple to follow instructions in pictures with captions.
You do not need any tools to assemble the mop. The handle clicks onto the body and then you just click the cleaning frame on to the base.

The lightweight handle clicks in place easily and you can remove it when you want to store it. The clip to release the handle is under the flex hook to hold the cord and can be a little difficult to release. You then need to connect the steam mop base to the main body. The measuring cup is for filling the reservoir on the front of the mop.
It is easy to put on the cleaning pads. When they are dirty and you have finished washing them you can just remove them and place them in the washing machine.
Using the Vileda Steam Mop
First, fill up with water. Open water tank cap counter clockwise; fill it up to a max of 400ml using the plastic jug. Then screw the top back in a clockwise direction. Switch on using the on-off switch situated on the rear of the mop. A light comes on at the top of the steam mop. It is ready to use within 15 seconds when the steam appears. You can use for upto 30 minutes using just one a 400ml tank of water.
Controlling the Steam Mop
You can adjust the amount of steam you use on the floor. The switch to control the quantity of steam is located above water cap. Use the MIN setting for delicate floors like laminate and wood. Use MAX for tiles and vinyl.
Hygienically clean your floor
The steam mop uses steam and the cleaning properties of a Microfibre pad, to clean the dirt and bacteria from your floors. This combination can get rid of stains and greasy marks and 99% of germs and bacteria from your flooring.
Refreshing carpets
The steam mop comes with the carpet glider attached to the micro fibre pad on the base. While gliding this over the carpet it will give your carpets a refresh. You need to use the carpet glider when using the steam cleaner on your carpet.
Otherwise, if you attempt to use it without the glider the mop head bunches up and is difficult to manoeuvre on the carpet. When you use the glider there is no water soaking into the carpet. You are only refreshing the carpet not actually cleaning it. It will not get stains and dirt out of the carpet.
However, it will help to get rid of bacteria and odour from your carpets. For this, you will a proper carpet cleaning vacuum or use a carpet spray and clean by hand.
Swivel Head
The swivel head of the mop allows you to clean around furniture and corners easily. It is easy to use and is very good maneuverability with the ball joint arrangement. The ball makes it very easy to push around the floor. You can also lower the handle to get under low-lying furniture. The shape of the head gets into corners to be able to give them a good clean.
Filling the Water Tank
Easy to fill, with other steam mops you need to remove the water tank to fill it under the tap. A full tank will give you on average half an hour. Just fill the water tank using the water jug provided. The tank has a capacity of 400 ml and takes two jug fills to fill. There is a light indicator to tell you when the water tank is nearly empty. There is no anti lime scale feature with this mop. It suggests that you can descale using vinegar and water. However, it is probably best to use distilled water especially if you live in a hard water area. The tank when only half fill is capable of completing a large kitchen floor and bathroom.
Cord Length
The power cord length is a generous 6 metres in length. This will enable you to ensure that you can clean the largest of rooms without having to unplug and change sockets.
The Controls
This mop comes with some very easy to use controls. There is only an on/off switch, a green power on light, which turns to flashing red when you need a water refill and a dial for steam power. The steam control knob can be set to vary the amount of steam the floors require. For delicate floors, it is best to use only minimal steam. High setting is good for quarry tiles.
As soon as the unit is switched on. There is no finger trigger to control the amount of steam issued. Therefore, you have to be careful not to leave unattended.
How well does it work on surfaces
It is easy to clean all your washable surfaces and the triangular mop head means it is easy t0 get into all corners.
It performs well on laminate surfaces, tiles and on vinyl surfaces. These come up well and as it is steam not soaking wet like when you use a mop and bucket. It will shift sticky stuff with a few wipe overs. With dirt that is more ingrained it takes a little more effort. It is worth loosing ingrained dirt with a scrubbing brush at first before using the mop. It is much easier to use than the manual Vileda Mop is.
The kitchen floor when completed dries much quicker than a traditional mop. The mop head looked dirty even after cleaning using a traditional mop and bucket. Which just goes to prove that the stem mop is lifting more dirt than the mop and bucket. It also helps to lift stains that are more difficult.

What I dislike about the Vileda Steam Mop
Solely the on-off switch controls the steam flow. There is no trigger switch, common in other mops, to control the amount of steam emitted.
Summary of the Review
Very easy to use. You can buy more technical multifunctional steam mops. However, if all you want is a simple but efficient steam mop this is a good buy. You can check out the Videda Steam Mop at Amazon.
